Bio

Claudia Reyes (Granada, 1994).

I took my first contact with music at home, thanks to my father who is an amateur musician, and later at the Ángel Barrios Professional Conservatory of Music (Granada). In 2012 I moved to San Sebastian without knowing yet what the next 4 years at Musikene would gave me: a lot of chamber music, musical and personal discoveries and countless people who are still very important today. After Musikene, life takes me to Helsinki. The Sibelius Academy allowed me to continue playing a lot of chamber music and gave me my first experiences inthe professional orchestral world, for which I am extremely grateful. Likewise, living in a very culturally different country and meeting people from such different places was an important step in my personal maturity. Then, interests such as research or historical interpretation awoke, leding me to study a Master's Degree in Musical Research at the International University of Valencia.

During all these years of training and growth I have participated in different contests, being awarded in several of them: 2018, Yamaha Scholarship Contest in Finland; 2015, Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales de España (Jeunesse Musicales); 2013, Reicha International Competition organized by the ISA2013 Festival in Vienna; 2011, European Clarinet Competition in Madrid and 2009, II ADEC National Clarinet Competition.

I have also had the great pleasure of working with orchestras such as the Helsinki Philarmonic Orchestra (HKO), Turku Philarmonic Orchestra, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Finnish Radio Orchestra RSO, Vaasa City Orchestra, Musikene Sinfonieta, Musikene Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica of Bilbao (BOS), City of Granada Orchestra (OCG), Philharmonic Orchestra of Granada, Youth Orchestra of Andalusia, Orchestra of the University of Granada (OUGR), among others. I have worked with directors such as Vladimir Jurowsky, Christoph Eschenbach, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Susanna Mälkki or Tomas Djupsjöbacka, among others.

From very early on, I have tried to make chamber the central axis of my activities, since I find the most essential part of the musical fact on it. With different highly esteemed colleagues I have been part in different groups: Stretto Trio (clarinet, cello and piano) and Haizea Ensemble (wind quintet). Currently, I form Aión Dúo with the Valencian pianist Pau Fernández. In the same way and together with Pau, in 2019 we launched the Ágora Festival, which we manage from our Tarab Hispánica Association and with which we intend to create a meeting space for young artists and experimentation with the public through chamber music. .

I personally believe that as a performer of our time we have the duty to be in contact with the music that is being created. This has a profound importance to me as a clarinetist. Thus, I have been able to commission, work and premiere, mainly through Aión Dúo, works by Eduardo Soutullo, Voro García, Claudia Cañamero, Peter Eötvos, José Manuel López López and David Moliner. I have also been part of the I Hans Zender Academy organized by the Ensemble Modern.

The different formations to which I have belonged have led me to visit important venues such as:  Musiikkitalo (Helsinki), Konzerthaus Berlin, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Stadtcasino Basel, Turina Hall in Seville, Manuel de Falla Auditorium (Granada), Reial Cercle Artistic in Barcelona, Eutherpe Foundation in León, among others, and participate in festivals such as Festival Ensems, Encuentro de Santander or Rafelfestival. Likewise, I have been part of Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra of Germany, academist of the Finnish Chamber Orchestra, the Finnish National Opera or Balthasar Neumann Ensemble. Recently, I participated as a clarinetist in festivals such as the Santander Music and Academy Meeting, Ensems Festival (Valencia).

Based in Basel, from where I manage my freelance activity around Europe, I study period instruments in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Pierre-André Taillard. Since 2024, I also work as a chamber music professor at the COSCyL Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León.

Apart from all this professional information, my interests apart from music are varied: I love cooking and trying new flavors from far away places, doing crafts and painting watercolors (as I can) helps me to release tensions, I love ancient history and everything that has to do with archeology and as a person who grew up next to a spectacular mountain range, I need to walk through the mountains and the countryside to connect with my roots.
